The music of Al Gromer Khan is one of contemplation and meditation. It is shaped of hypnotizing soundscapes, sitar and intimate electronic sound design which at times can be compared to the works of Eno. Khan explains the music of “Turya” (meaning transcendental state) is based on many years of experimentation with simple melodic cycles on different levels of emotion. Especially on the two longs tracks “Stamboul Train” and “The Quiet World of Shri Nityannanda”, Khan is able to sculpture a sedative, almost flowing atmosphere which goes by as smooth as a river. This certainly applies to the beautiful textural title track which concludes the album, which seemed to be very hard to compose. |
