Both these two experienced ambient composers, hailing from Italy and Belgium respectively, have numerous collaborations and solo works under their belt. What I got here is a minimalist, totally subdued, and sedate work of free-floating textures unfolding on three extended tracks, imparting passage to a realm of transcendence, a reflection on life while absorbing the beautiful harmonics of these essential dronescapes originating from electric guitar, zither, and processing. This is a meditative, highly immersive sanctuary of pastel-colored sound design about which Alio Die, aka Stefano Musso, reveals: “It offers no possibility of interpretation, because the involvement is complete, and immersion presupposes nothing more than being immediately part of the floating of the cosmos in the glow of its impersonal nature”. For me, the 24-minute opener “Without the light of the sky, time is lost” makes the finest outing here. Get your hands on the beautifully executed “The Chapters of the Eclipse” -which took eight years to complete- if long-form, airy, calm, and almost sacred ambient musings ticks boxes for you.
