This is an ambient double cd by Italian/German ambient duo Alio Die (aka Stefano Musso) and Mathias Grassow. Beforehand I had a feeling it was going to be a hefty one, and it proved to be so with 2x 70 minutes of meditative drone music. Grassow & Alio Die’s widely spaced static drone platforms are strongly reminiscent of India, and are complemented by Oriental percussion, insect and environmental sounds. The many water sounds also stand out, making the atmosphere seem soggy, dense and intoxicating. Klaus Wiese is a guest musician on Indian stringed instruments, among others. couldn’t suppress several yawns while listening to the first disc, but fortunately the first part of second cd contains more percussion in addition to acoustic instruments and snare drum. Towards the end, however, it returns to the rhythmless atmosphere/drone environment of the 1st disc. The last track even lasts half an hour, again with minimal changes. To sum up, you definitely need to be a drone fan to be able to sit through both cds in a row and be excited about this album as a whole. The cd was released as a limited edition of 300 copies. Meanwhile, Mathias sells the music as a download on his BC-site. |
