Alpha Wave Movement – Resonant Waves
CD-r/DIGITAL DOWNLOAD, Harmonic Resonance Recordings, 2024

Gregory Kyryluks’ “Resonant Waves” is a contemporary electronic release purposely realized on four pieces of equipment and no software (the composer is not a fan of soft synths whatsoever). The seven-track outcome is lively, rhythmic-driven, airy, and transparent sounding with nice high-tech, groovy bits and flavours and a pleasant overall flow.

All the music, especially “Essence” and “Haiku” were for the most part improvised loops into a hardware sequencer and triggered live into Logic Pro X. I’m personally intrigued by the ethereal, warm, almost fluid sound design of “Stellae” that transports the listener into a weightless, serene space while some nice electronic minimalism makes up “Airdrift”, that reminds me of AWM’s early work.

Mr Kyryluk recalls, that the final track “Moss Falls” (a nice airy, atmospheric lingering) was sort of an experiment as to what one could do with a Behringer reproduction of the Sequential Prophet 600 ie called the Pro-800 (8 voice instead of 6). All the sounds except for one which came from his Micromonsta v1. Listening back to that arpeggion, the metallic one sort of reminds the composer of the Balinese influence of early Robert Rich, whose music he quite admires. The experience learned working in the now or moment and when in the right frame of mental state one can do much with very little (like the Japanese zen term shizen).
