In a way, I find it hard to get used to and adjust to Altus’s music, which marries rhythmic structures with transparent, soft, wavering soundscapes. This is the case on “Ultraviolet” and a track like “Transmission Erosion,” in particular. As the composer already remarks, the eight-track outcome here veers away from sharper rhythms and synth-driven melodies known from the 2023 album “Descender”, in favor of ambient textures to shine. In a certain sense, the outcome resembles some of the work of UK artist 36 when it comes to lightness, and reverie-melancholic moods slightly. “Shadow Days” though is a pure, non-rhythmic soundscape that drifts right up my alley. |
