“Chronicle” contains Redshift’s concert performed at E-Live 2007 in the Netherlands with Mark’s huge modular on stage, and it’s actually the only one of their 8 gigs never to have been released until this very day. A closer look and listen reveals the 63 minutes of organic-sounding music featuring multiple abstract and industrial bits is set around five tracks making up “Fracture” (that was just out when they performed), interlinked by four short ambient passages. The blast here comes at the tail of “Chronicle” with a thundering rendition of “Rapture” featuring both spiraling moodscapes as well as chordal mellotron parts. Although not an essential release (while still being a nice dedication to the late Mark Shreeve -who’s sorely missed in the Em-scene until this very day), this vibrant live-on-stage recording will surely please many fans from the band one more time I reckon. My verdict: 3.5 stars (as I prefer the studio version). |
