This double-cd features remastered versions of the original albums “@shra” (1998) and “@shra vol. 2” (2002). These contain the dynamic live performance by Manuel Göttsching and his trusted companions Steve Baltes, Harald Grosskopf and Lutz Ulbrich on February 11 (Osaka) and 12 (Tokyo) 1997, Japan. The progressive instrumental music found here is a beautiful kaleidoscope of inspired electro-ambient, techno and assorted beats/drums/percussion, taking the listener on a fascinating, rhythmic journey of fine compositions from the past and the present. Melody and tasty minimalism form the core of Manuel’s extended musical endeavors, reaching a pinnacle on “Echo Waves”, “Twelve Samples” and the rocking “Niemand lacht rückwärts”, while slowing down on the glowing golden oldie “Sunrain”. I for one think any Ashra fan should embrace this well-done release that never fails to fascinate (“@shra” being is the strongest effort of the two discs). |
