Axs’ “Arctic Circle”, a project by French composer and dj Alexandre Gouard, is filled with 61-minutes of polar ambiences incorporating hints of dub techno, all moving slowly onward and downstream like a glacier. Prepare for a calm, gentle resonating listen. Pity though the chilled-out music loses bits of impact and strength when minimalist beats kick in (“Compass”, “Edge of the Chasm”). Contrary to that the music shines the most when it travels and swirls in the floating domain to mesmerizing effect (“Empty Sky”, “Island at the Brink of Time”, “Glass Dome”, “The Dusk Glade”). |
