Uwe Saher knows how to make attractive and accessible electronic music, doing so for a long time now. He delivers another fine testament with his 22nd album “Late in Berlin”, offering four lengthy tracks in the best tradition of the Berlin School sound. The 11-minute title piece kicking things off is a very nice Schulze-kindred affair, marrying sequences, melody, and acoustic drums in a lovely manner. Things get even more infectious with the excellent, TD-flavoured “Roll in” that merges their late ‘70s/begin of their ’80s sound with hints of “Encore”, all accompanied by some great acoustic rhythms. “Black Lake”, the longest track, sounds far more uniform, stretched, and less captivating but in the end, it doesn’t turn out bad. Dynamics kick in full force on “Final Data” with its tantalizing, melodic “swung”. In my opinion, the first two tracks alone justify the purchase of this recommended, well-done 67-minute release. Good job, Mr Saher! |
