“Filaments” is an adventure into the more darker and experimental side of his music but still has Mr Pollard’s occasional sequencer elements. On four tracks, Brendan’s electronics are joined by Michael Daniel’s tasty guitar work. The first two tracks start out in a gloomy, dark and psychedelic fashion, sound wise taking us back to the core of Berlin School music and TD’s “Phaedra” period more in particular. Things turn out more accessible with some classic sequencing and more air on “Intervision” and the second half of the 18-minute “Pannerramma”. Haunting yet bleak soundscapes make up “Plenostream”, while dark, abstract and menacing sounds are all over the place in the first minutes of “Facets and Degrees” before things shift into beautiful sequencing and bits of melody in the second half. Mellotrons show up on the final track “Silt”, a pastoral piece with a stark opening. |
