“Wormholes”, the debut album by US musicians Brent E. Reiand and John Lyell, occupies a very distinctive corner within ambient music. The release showcases a strange kind of space ambient with both dark -think music on the Hypnos-label- and somewhat lighter passages, in which the use of (suddenly appearing) e-guitar creates an extra alienating effect. No description or comparison is therefore possible, the music offers a cleverly idiosyncratic ‘inward journey into the subconsciousness’ suitable only for advanced listeners of this type of genre. |
