The 13-minute EP “Only Five Petals” is another fine exercise of reflective neoclassical piano music. The outcome, conceived during late-night sessions in the spring and summer of 2024, captures the essence of stillness and mystery as it sees Mr Sanfilippo explore the depth of his Kawai RX-3 grand piano. Each of the five pieces is based on structured improvisations, blending technical precision with intuitive creativity—a hallmark of Bruno’s work. Some tracks delicately weave in electronic soundscapes, harmonizing the acoustic with the electronic, the human with the ethereal. The latter is all over the place in the final piece “The True Source”. Overall, it is music to make your mind wander and find some necessary peace and solace in our present, troubled times.
