“Climbing Formation” is my second encounter with the ambient music of Will Long (aka Celer), who plays synthesizer, organ and tape loops on this release. Three lengthy and one short piece make up the 70+ minute album, featuring most tranquil and highly minimal drone ambiences. It’s a slow morphing tapestry of velvet drones and sub-bass rumbles, started and ended by expansive fade-in and fade-out phases. These simmering, reoccurring and shifting patterns just float, while staying utterly quiet as they wash on and on. I realize listening and experiencing the aforementioned is quite a heavy exercise as the elevating sound current seems rather everlasting, taking in consideration most of the rather uniform music is recorded at a very low volume. The physical edition (limited to 500 copies) of “Climbing Formation” comes as factory-pressed cd in a matte-coated, full color digipak. |
