“The Storm of Silence” is a soundscape recording by Chihei Hatakeyama, a Japanese sound artist and musician living on the outskirts of Tokyo, and Dirk Serries (known previously as vidnaObmana). In 40 freeform minutes, the duo sketches out four longform, isolationist and distant ambient farscapes that are minimalist and slow evolving in approach and style. I for one feel these floating dronescapes feature lots of omnipresent vidna/Serries textural characteristics, mourning softly while addressing a distinct lonely and rather darker flavor once in a while. To my ears, the slumbering and hypnotizing waves of “Fryst” and “Hvit” are the most appealing on “The Storm of Silence”. Both are dreamy scenes transforming winter into a warm blanket arriving right at the listener’s doorstep. |
