“Hav” is the second release of the UK –based ambient label Council of Nine, run by Simon Lomax. Its composer is the Norwegian Christian Høy Knudsen, who spent two years sculpting and refining the dark and compelling textural outcome making up the concept release. “Hav” (the Norwegian word for ocean) takes us on a 70-minute journey into the great outdoors, an expansive sound painting on the vast and remote landscapes of water. Its dense, introspective atmospheres and zone worlds unfold slowly, occasionally even in a foreboding, slightly uncomfortable manner. All in all, the calm, beatless and delicately crafted drony soundscapes of “Hav” would fit nicely in the roster of the American Hypnos label. |
