I can’t say the Chonotope Project releases on Spotted Peccary Music affected me as much as the independent (traditional space music inspired) recordings Jeffery Ericson Allen put out prior to signing with the label. It seems to me “Lotus Rising”, a series of musical reflections on foundational themes on Zen Buddhism, harkens back only slightly to that earlier period with gentle evolving, gracious and spacious atmospheres where various energy levels pass by. This said there are lyrical moments along extended feelings of detachment, contemplation and desolation found in the sensuous electronic modulations (“A prayer for tenderness”) and tribal-esque ambient (“Opening the hand of thought”, “Homage to the three jewels”). Although I respect the musical turn of events since 2015 and onward, I simply miss Chronotope Project’s expansive cosmic journeying (now only featured on “Zazen”). |
