“Into the Quiet”, the second collaborative project between multi-instrumentalists Deborah Martin and Jill Haley, is an ambient recording exploring (and delving into) expansive spaces while leaving the pressure cooker of the nowadays world far behind. It actually plunges into the inner realms of human experience, emphasizing the notion that one must venture “Into the Quiet” to discover the hidden depths within oneself. The eight-track/43-minute sonic narrative, merging electronic textures and classical instrumentation (oboe, flute, English horn), is a gentle and most serene journey through immersive yet pastoral realms consisting of melodic, pastel colours sketching out inner aural landscapes. Occasionally, this warm pool of sonic reveries (most notably “Hall of Whispers”) made me think of some of Mark Isham’s older film music, evoking a similar kind of bliss and invocation. |
