If one likes accessible, moody, and melodic electronics with some occasional vibrant electric guitar, the works of F.D. Project (aka Dinslaken-based composer Frank Dorittke) will sure be to your liking. “The other side of… and more” comprises a nice set of tracks featuring well-executed, more darker-shaded atmospheric, and quite dreamful music. The latter applies to the first two parts of the lengthy “The other side of…” while shifting to a more pulsating, up-tempo, rather progressive mode on the last two parts without things becoming too busy. Aside from assorted Berlin School sequenced ingredients surfacing on and off, the outcome contains various cosmic hooks and subtle rhythmic/melodic elements as well as some occasional melancholic flavors. The additional three tracks are a tad different from the previous, e.g. showing the influence of Mike Oldfield on Mr. Dorittke’s musical style quite clearly on the emotive-cinematic “Polarlight”. On the catchy “Black Mirror”, a track featuring some dynamic guitar on top over sequencer and beat-driven electronics, things are spiced up further. Things cool down on the slower-paced “La Mémoire”, which actually sounds like an outro piece to my ears. All in all “The other side of… and more” has a lot to offer for any fan of general melodic Em. |
