“Tone Maps” by Lancaster-based producer Mark Burford is an immersive sonic exploration of place and time: past, present, and future, using analog and digital synthesizers among a vast range of field recordings, attempting to capture some of nature’s magic and atmospheres encountered in the sea, skies, and landscapes on the isle of Anglesey found on the western tip of Wales, England. The six tracks of organic minimal music and ambient drift-type should best be listened to continuously. This is to get the best out of this mix of synthesized textures and delicate field recordings, submerging the listener in a slow-motion, emotive trip through a series of wide-open, wonderous spaces. Keep in mind though, that abstract, tuned drone textures and heavily processed soundscapes must be your cup of tea to enjoy this rather hard work of sonic art, so best try before you buy. |
