After two privately released albums, six albums and a CD-single through Groove Unlimited, accomplished composer, producer, and musician Frank Van Bogaert put an end to his Em career with “One out of Five” (2006). After that, he focussed his attention on his own ACE studio while he also took part in the prog-rock band Fish on Friday. Since then, Ron Boots and Frank kept regular contact through the years as they always could get along very well. After being away from the EM-scene for some 15 years, Ron suggested Frank perform an electronic concert at E-Live 2024. Meanwhile, Frank had relocated his home and built a brand new studio next to it in the Belgian Ardennes. Initially, it was not the plan a full album would coincide with the concert, but only a few new tracks. But while creating the latter, Frank got in a good flow again and was able to compose a complete set that now sees the light of day as “Sounds from Higher Grounds”, coming in a beautifully designed digipack. The 53 minutes of catchy, emotive music on the expertly engineered album breaks away from what’s heard on his previous releases. This said, it still presents a pleasant, accessible contemporary sound design pairing great sequences, lots of melodies, assorted rhythms, sound effects, and deep bass lines. The highlight for me is the infectious 11-minute title track -what a blast- where all of Frank’s expertise and musicianship are merged together into a cohesive, evocative whole. Headphone listening to this beauty is so much fun. Nice going & mission accomplished, Frank! |
