CD, Origins, 1997

French engineer and musician Frederick Rousseau will be know by many due to his work with Vangelis in the ‘80’s and the ‘90’s as well as Jean Michel Jarre, but he also did various own releases aside from being involved in many film projects.

This release, for which only electronics devices were use, was created with the idea to compose an electronic requiem for the oldest witness on earth: trees.

The overall air of the 54-minute ambient-ethnic-nature album creates an intimate, emotive feel and profound atmosphere that actually spreads and gives a voice to beauty through all its veins. The turmoil and high speed buzz of our planet is absent here and replaced by a soothing, inspired collection of uplifting, warm soundscapes with occasional (children’s) voices.

As such, “Spirit in the Woods” is a highly recommended album of sonic bliss that easily equals the sounds of Greek master Vangelis who sadly left us.
