Grindlestone – Tone

Grindlestone, founded in 1999, is an ambient/experimental project that brings together US-musicians Don Falcone and Douglas Erickson.
Their release “Tone”, mastered by Robert Rich, offers nine minimal-oriented sonic creations with a raw edge, assembled from found sounds and manipulations of music performances.

The 53-minute creepy outcome is no easy and accessible stuff, as there’s a string of foreboding, menacing undercurrents running through the duos music. The many strange whooshes, alienating effects, deconstructed and buzzing sounds along the spacious sound design end up being abstract cinematic and overall spooky.

All in all, I had a hard time listening and digesting the uneasy “Tone” from the start til the end.
