“A Song for Lost Blossoms” (74:52) comprises the best music composed between 2004 and 2006 by minimal ambient musician Harold Budd and guitarist Clive Wright, both residing in the beautiful and remote Southern California desert community of Joshua Tree. The highly reflective piece smoothly drifts off with the 32-minute “Pensive Aphrodite”, which features Wright’s softly yearning, very Robert Fripp-kindred guitar work complementing Budd’s warm, quiet sound pads. The title track with recited poem didn’t do much for me, while the quite saddening minimal string textures of the live performed “Forever hold my breath” are positively counter pointed by well rendered guitar licks. Intimacy and reflection are also at the core of the live piece “At this moment” and the pieces following. The atmospheric album “A Song for Lost Blossoms” is a source of solace and quietude, melting “ambient melody with transcendental mood portals”. |
