“Where Edges Meet” is the debut release from British composer James Murray. James Murray is a London-based electro-acoustic sound artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist, who’s productions weave together elements of electronica, downtempo, jazz and dub in emotive explorations of how the organic and electronic interact.

“Where Edges Meet”, which took five years in the making, contains some tracks conceived a while ago and which have been through various incarnations while others are more recent compositions. Murray himself likes to refer to the outcome as electro-acoustic music due to the interplay between sound design/synthesis and natural, acoustic or accidental resonances.

Well, “Where Edges Meet” merges organic and synthetic realms into delicate and rather daring soundscapes, creating a slow flow and an evocative sense and space.
This disc needed several spins before I was able to connect to some of the emotions embedded in the intimate, well-produced and mastered music, which is slowly set in motion with broken break beats from the third track “Outside Context Solution” on.

All in all, this is a peculiar and daring style of down-tempo related ambient from the home of Ultimae Records which isn’t that easy.
