“Solarization” is a concept album of Finnish composer Janne Hanhisuanto about solar power and its significance through the history of mankind. Sonically, it combines the ambient flavors of Erik Wollo with more traditional Berliner School-oriented and symphonic electronic music. Most of all, the 34-minute outcome makes an accessible, contemporary-instrumental work featuring nice soaring melodic lines and joyful sequencing along an open, transparent sound design that many will appreciate. A strong sense of good old Jarre kicks in on the second piece while the sound of Janne’s soloing and compositional structure reminded me occasionally of those by Stephan Whitlan. In my opinion, the music is best though when Mr Hanhisuanto stays in ambient realms, dwelling in overall mellow, quiet sound sketches. |
