This recording is Mr. Lyell’s seventh overall ambient release and his fifth solo album to date. It’s also John’s first ambient album commercially released since he moved from the Minneapolis, Minnesota area to the state of New Mexico in the Spring of 2017. The 34-minute outcome, mastered by the capable Robert Rich, evolved from song ideas composed around the same time as the original “Eternity” album (2012) or even just a couple of years later. It’s a calm, lush as well as rather drony soundscape affair featuring only slight hints of melody, all unfolding and resonating in a rather minimalist way on each of the six tracks. Overall rating: between 3 and 3.5 stars. |
