Jon Mark is best known as one half of the Mark-Almond band, session guitarist and producer, who now resides in New Zealand. Situated on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, the Callanish Stones (also called the Stonehenge of the north) is a megalithic site that inspired composer Jon Mark to compose this classic ambient album on his Celtic roots and the mythology of that environment. “The Standing Stones of Callanish” is a highly cinematic album of simple but effective beauty, offerings calming tracks that paint a picture of the mystery and realms surrounding this remote circle of stones. The repetitive nature and gentle movement of the soothing as harmonic synth textures have both a dreamy as hypnotizing effect, easily carrying the mind away to times long gone by. A timeless ambient classic with melancholic undercurrents one shouldn’t miss out. |
