There’s a velvet feel found in the music of UK artist Kevin Kendle that shows familiarity with the new age/ambient works of Jonn Serrie. Kendle’s celestial sonic art and approach, though, has a meditative, soothing angle also present on his fifth release in the Deep Skies series entitled “Illumination”. Same as the previous recordings in the series, Nigel Shaw (additional synths & synth bubble effects) and Brian Abbott (glissando guitar) show up as guest musicians on “Illumination”, inspired by the galaxy field in the constellation of Virgo. Once again, the result is very formless and floating, creating a vast, timeless soundscape to immerse in that (according to the composer) this time around inhabits a metaphysical angle. With the latter, Kevin hints at a personal illumination, a spiritual awakening, and not only the light from celestial objects. As such, peace, grace, and calm shimmer profoundly through created realms especially on the beautiful closing tracks “Inscape” and “Infinite Wisdom”. |
