The sacred, the expansive, the mystic, and the introspective are imminent and most present on “Isola”. The 79-minute release features four extended tracks by Mathias Grassow composed between 2009 and 2012 of which the music was inspired originally by the islands of Spitsbergen and their eventful history. Expect a continuous flow of ebbing and swelling textures and slumbering, intense dronescapes passing by where the sense of haunting and foreboding is always close or lurking around the corner. I have no doubt this deep ambient with undeniable cinematic edges will please any Grassow-aficionado. |
