At the end of 2020 Gterma surprised its fans and followers with the release of “The Dreamquest Sessions”, an ambient work of art Mathias Grassow created in 1998 for which he asked Klause Wiese to contribute the pure, clean soundings of Tibetan Singing Bowls. The recording is in fact the third and last link in the trilogy made up together with “Darklight Quest” and the “Nightquest Sessions” released previously on this fine Scandinavian label. For this Gterma edition the music of “The Dreamquest Sessions” has been carefully remastered and expanded to nearly 80-minutes with a short “Prologue” and “Epilogue”. The dark sonic content -meant for low volume listening and best enjoyed late in the evening or night time- consists of longform drone washes of a minimalist, at times elevating nature. Melody or rhythm is absent here. Similar to a lot of Grassow’s work, the lengthy “The Dreamquest Sessions” evokes a relaxed atmosphere where things morph, intrigue and transform slowly into the deep end. Infinite playback suits this nocturnal travelogue very well. |
