Max van Richter, aka Paul Lawler aka “deceased” member of Arcane, once again rides the fine edge of vintage electronics with the music of his EP “Portal”.

Although there are only two tracks on this release, the 18 minutes of tasty music moves gently through the darker sides of classic Berliner School music. The slow-paced sequencers kicking in halfway on “Contact” are delightful, as are the bass-line and atmospheric pads surrounding them. The latter also make up the first three minutes of the title track before the melancholic sounding retro pads and accompanying sequencers resurface again.
I for one would have loved this release to be a full-length effort.
