As could be expected with such a title, Michael Neil´s “Adrift” takes its listeners into drifting oceanic sceneries. The four tracks -three clocking over 13 minutes- feature calm, warm expansive textural tapestries with an occasional Vangelis-esque touch that take the listener out in the open. Michael’s old symphonic, slightly dramatic-infused style shows up here as well on the 8-minute “Under Summer Stars” (as well as the title piece later on) while a sense of ease meanders fluidly on “Beyond the Ocean Shore/Signs of Land”. The title track found at the end, containing some sequencing with gentle washes and soundscapes hovering over it, proves the most powerful.
