These emotive soundscapes, all composed around the “Maisema” period, were made with the intention of offering music to soundtrack music producers in film and television. But after they had been sent out to a number of companies, none of them showed any interest. Slightly dejected Michael Neil decided to release them anyway, so here they are. Well, the 63-minute “Atmospheric Moods” is a collection of imaginary sound paintings full of mood, dense atmosphere and occasional hints of Michael’s trademark sweeping symphonics while addressing light and darker-shaded sonic ground also. I’d say “Coming Home”, “Cosmos”, “Flight of the Albatros”, “Ghost Waltz” and “Night and the City” are pinnacle moments among the 20 ambient compositions. |
