Composer Mike Andrews has released quite a bit of music on cd-r, but only found a home for them on two established labels as factory-pressed cds. This feels a bit awkward as his music is melodic and accessible, a fine blend of Vangelis and Jarre stylings along an own signature approach. The varied “Retrospective” gives and overview of Mike’s talent, offering 15 vibrant, dynamic and dramatic tracks in one continuous ride that should appeal to anyone liking general melodic and sequencer-oriented electronic music. A track as “Nikki’s Theme” e.g. is more laid-back and lines up to the emotive/melodic tunes of John Dyson while a piece like “Aura” bursts of energy. Pinnacles on the album are the opening and closing track. Although nice, I rate Mr Andrews album “Time and Science” higher than this one, which has much to do with the less strong and captivating compositions making up “Retrospective”. |
