This release features Odyssey, aka Tomasz Pauszek (also known as RND) and We are the Hunters (aka the – Spanish? – duo Sentionaut and Synthembryo). Both have delivered one lengthy composition that is dedicated to or inspired by the legendary cosmic music made in the ‘70’s in Germany by some well-known suspects. Although the 32-minute Odyssey-track “The Four Elements” starts out rather atmospheric, things run into experimental/abstract and edgy stuff around the 10-minute mark. Structure finally sets in around 17 minutes, where a bouncy rhythm and sequencers start leading the way for a couple of minutes, while Tomasz adds quirky effects and vague pads. Only in the last five minutes, the music puts on a bit of an attractive, old-style Jarre face. Can the outerspace moments (captured on the 28-minute “Environmental Energy”) by We Are The Hunters do far better than this? Not really, as they also display a chaotic and unpolished soundscape design loaded with experimental noises, all leading nowhere. Halfway, I was to almost going to stop listening when a sequencer pattern with a vintage edge and improvised sounds on top showed up. It doesn’t put on much body though, besides some flickering sound effects. All in all, this release brings together some freaky, most peculiar and unbalanced stuff. |
