Don’t be fooled by the title, as this album features instrumental minimal-techno music by German DJ, producer and composer Hendrik Weber, who operates under the alias Pantha du Prince. His second album “This Bliss” is an independent release featuring intelligent electronica with a drive, open sound, spatial sphere and lushness. There’s also an obscure and weird side to the darker shaded, up-beat output, as the Detroit house-inspired music takes on various twists and transformations while the deep basses, beats, bells and clicks carry on. The mechanical movements executed on the 74-minute album aren’t always that coherent, as melody isn’t the key element on “This Bliss”. I’d say the dancy “Urlichten” and “Walden 2” hit the accessible avenue the most, counterpointed by edgy, psychedelic takes such as “White Out” or “Moonstruck”. Intelligent, clean but also rather weird are the thoughts that “This Bliss” left behind. |
