For “Beautiful World”, Patrick again invited his musical companion Peter Maunu, who adds some fine 6 and 12 strings guitar to his inspiring music. Clocking at exactly 48 minutes, the album still contains the distinct sounds & textures that have made his music a trademark over the years, starting in 1985 with “Ancient Dreams”.
“Beautiful World”(featuring elemental paintings by his children on the cover and booklet) offers seven tracks in which the listener meets a perfect balance of ingredients.
This record is one of in-depth mood and atmosphere, the textures carry a slight sense of melancholy and longing for.
Next to the overall relaxed nature we also encounter a few symphonic outbursts which keep you focused along the journey.
Some great bass-work is heard in the opening track “Facing the Sun” and in the title track, not to forget about the masterful textures and the many details revealing itself when the disc is heard several times. T
he album concludes in the calm repose of “An Evening Sky”, leaving the listener in a positive state of mind.
The overall mix and production of the cd are outstanding, so be sure this is one is also a real treat for your hi-fi system.
To me, Patrick proves he’s still something special in nowadays contemporary instrumental music, so make sure to check this album out.
