I reckon many fans of contemporary Berlin School style will absolutely embrace the sparkling outcome of Ellis & Thomhav’s collaborative “Orpheus”. It’s a concept album painting strong, in-depth atmospheres through lovely sequenced parts dressed with assortments of ethereal, melancholic soundscapes and vibrant textures. The very well-engineered music contains fat, thick layers of quite darkening sound mingled with subtle elements carefully implemented throughout the full, quite immersive but always captivating sound design. As the release tearsheet already states, the music becomes increasingly introspective and emotional as the album progresses. It all culminates in an infectious, wonderful manner on the final track, “Leviathan,” a stunning 29-minute rollercoaster through a haunting underworld from start to finish. Impressive, guys! |
