Here’s another great exercise into outer space by the accomplished Wuppertal-based composer Martin Stürtzer. The 68-minute deep galactic voyage of lush, smooth spiralling darkening soundscapes found here is enhanced beautifully with radio emissions and re-synthesised images from the Saturn system recorded by the NASA probe Cassini. Immersing in the slow swelling mysterious dronescapes and gentle non-threatening ebbing tone poems -best use quality headphones- has a powerful cinematic effect next to manifest sense of awe and isolation. All in all, Spirits of Rhea” makes a great work of profound and captivating ambient, one taking the listener into the cold and vast open where no boundaries seem to exist. Chapeau, Martin! |
