With “Sojourner”, US-synthesist Phillip Wilkerson brings his listener a musical odyssey for inner travel and pure relaxation for which he used the Yamaha XS6, Virus Access and Polar synthesizers. From the liner notes I also learned the contemplative sonic journey offered the composer the opportunity to explore new levels of emotional intensity and tension, able to convey positive spiritual undercurrents, making it most suitable for meditative purposes. Mastered by Robert Rich, the slow flowing, non-rhythmic soundscapes come as six separate tracks, all smooth gliding textural landscapes offering lots of subtle nuances and emotional depths. Moreover, on certain passages (such as “Gates of Mercy”) one can almost feel the gentle glow of sun rays on your skin. All in all, the warm sonic waves on this release act as an immersive lullaby to caress the mind. |
