This disc features two lengthy pieces: a studio take from March 2009 and the last concert Pollard/Daniel/Booth played at UK’s Awakenings festival in September 2010. The 24-minute “Red Gryphon Dream State” starts out with psychedelic soundscaping followed by some lovely vintage sequencing surfacing around 8 minutes which makes the track enter TD’s “Ricochet” territory without becoming thunderous. It’s more a case of energetic moodscaping with a great flow and beautiful laid-out intrinsic character. The 52-minute live piece “Towards that Moment” (a fully mastered version of the track originally released on the official ‘bootleg’ Live at Awakenings 18-09-10) is more lively and melodic, with some lush soloing and Michael Daniel’s e-guitar playing hovering over spherical, continuously tweaked sequencer tapestries and additional synth pads. It’s again the captivating sonic aura of vintage TD that makes this piece tickle the senses all the way, reinforced by the short shift into spherics around the 37-minute mark. Rest me to say there’s simply no need to hesitate getting “Volume 7” if you appreciate any or all of the vintage stuff on the previous volumes in this series. |
