“Elektrik Cowboys” comprises live improvised music, recorded live during the Ricochet Gathering in Montana in August 2007. The 63-minute album is nicely kicked off by Rainbow Serpent (aka the German duo Gerd Wienekamp and Frank Specht), which show their mastery in carefully unwinding compelling and beautifully pulsating analogue electronics in two seperate pieces. There’s a lot going on in “Geyser Fields”, a fine mix of atmospheric music in which dreamy textural soundscape and choir tapestries unfold and emerge in spacious realms. Further on, some thick sequencer patterns set things into motion on the second track “On the Road”. Nice going, guys! The remaining space on the cd is for a 35-minute piece by Thomas Fanger & Mario Schönwälder. As is the case with almost all music by Fanger & Schönwälder, their music consist of rather static, not that catchy electronic music which drags on without much progression and variation. The entrance is nice, but as soon as the sequencer, solo voices and effects show up, things end up being repetitive. Those interested shouldn’t linger too long, as this beautifully designed digi-pak is released as a limited edition of only 500 copies. |
