Those fond of the sounds of the famous CS80 synthesizer will more or less enjoy listening to Stephen Parsick’s album “Electric Karma”, privately released on 1 November 2011. Those expecting something like “Hoellenengel” will be disappointed though, as the outcome of “Electric Karma” is improvised, at times experimental-oriented and recorded straight-to-DAT. According to some linear notes, the music came into being while fiddling around with an electronic tabla drum machine which Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock had bought for Mr Parsick in India. Sonically, the five tracks are quite a weird and psychedelic affair, assembled from loops, extensive tamboura drone tapestries and minimal tabla percussion. While the textural “Demon’s Gorge” appears to be harmonic, deep and highly atmospheric, “Assassin” on the other side is a freaky outing that sees Stephen extensively playing around with the CS80´s ring modulator.
