The music on “Electric Ladder” is a smooth and sophisticated blend of vintage analogue synthesizers and acoustic tonalities. The latter are created on lap steel guitar, flutes, bassoon, soprano sax and acoustic guitar, played by either Robert or the two skilled session musicians who are his accompanists. I would characterize the music on the seven tracks as intelligent as hypnotizing soundscape music, nicely vibrating, breathing space, but still sticking to his principle of just intonation. “Showline” is a very nice track which would have been at place on his album “Numena”, althought the sound of soprano sax on another track isn’t my thing. “Electric Ladder” is a fine piece of ambient art that surely deserves recommendation. |
