When it comes to immersive, journey-like and dreamy music, Robert’s album “Travelers’ Cloth” -referring to the fabric of vibrating creation that surrounds us, the fabric of life that sustains us, the fragility of comfort and stability- has lots to offer. It’s actually inspired by David Hinton’s translations of T’ang dynasty Chinese poet Tu Fu and explores a question, What is Home?. The 64-minute, quite Asian-angled sonic outing opens up an aural world that’s recognizable immediately as one of Robert Rich, presenting lots of PVC flute along the signature sounds of lap steel guitar, versatile percussion, and drums along velvet electronic textures. Rather humid, ethereal and immersive atmospheres rise up before the minds eye as the poetic narrative takes us further into the calm realm that evolves in a gradual, harmonic (almost gracious) sense. The beautiful album art found on the six panel digipack complements the aforementioned moods and spheres making up this fascinating tribal-ambient album. Attentive headphone listening is recommended. Rating: between 3.5 and 4 stars. |
