Steve Roach – Holding the Space: Fever Dreams II

“Holding the Space” is the second chapter of the Fever Dreams-trilogy. Steve is accompanied by Byron Metcalf on assorted percussion and drums, and Jennifer Grais lends her voice to a few tracks.

Although the overall content is strongly tribal, it seems to me that Steve once again isn’t showing any development in his music.

His highly atmospheric music is fuelled with textural guitar and processed soundscapes and sampled, high-tech (hybrid groove) sequencing.
I can’t say there’s anything new here. To me it feels like he’s recycling the elements he discovered and played within the last decade or so.

I think that’s a bit disappointing, as Steve keeps stating he’s diving deeper into the “well of sounds” with every record he puts out.
