In June 2007, Steve was given the opportunity to play an ambient concert in the sacred space of San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral. This allowed him to use the natural, expansive reverent ambience of the performance space predominant in the sound mix. At that occasion, Steve played a melange of music of his albums “The Magnificent Void”, “Mystic Chords & Sacred Spaces” as well as new pieces that would later become “Dynamic Stillness”, “Arc of Passion”, and beyond. It all is now made available as this privately released double cd-release, containing two uninterrupted sets of 43 and 73 minutes. The immersive, hidden power of the soft glowing live ambience is best felt when listened with headphones, in which occasional sounds of the audience can be heard. This said, “Live at Grace Cathedral” makes a nice and moody concert recording by all means, but in the end I don’t think it that essential for a Roach collector (as there is no “new” music in the performance). |
