The composer’s urge to create some sequencer-based music continues on this album, although this time Mr Thompson decided to give the tracks a subtitle, as he just felt they needed it. In addition, all the music was created with hardware synths, so not a mixture of hardware and software like the previous Subclavian album. “II” sticks to the same format as the first album, containing three extended pieces (30, 27, and 13 minutes respectively) with mid-tempo sequencing and various melodic lines blended with an occasional, soaring – but sometimes also a bit too prominent and lengthy – solo voices. Overall I personally feel the outcome works best as background music. Rating: between 3 and 3.5 stars. |
