Syn’s album “The Glass Bridge” contains three long cosmic pieces from 2001, all featuring those lovely and captivating sounds that are characteristic for and so much appreciated from the classic Berlin School style and classic Vangelis. Next to some fine sequences on the title piece, Scottish composer David T. Dewdney also plays some lovely mellotron and other assorted vintage pads while he delicately throws in some sparkling effects along the way. After the 24-minute more versatile and structured title piece with hints of Vangelis, some grand cosmic cinema is at play on the 30-minute freeform “Shadowfall” that unfolds slowly and dreamful in various darker-shaded layers and dronetextures. This is great to immerse into when hearing through a good pair of headphones. Pleasant Vangelis-CS80 flavors return on the last track “Heart of Orion” along occasional dramatic outbursts in the lush meandering soundscape. In a way this comes rather close to the aural realm as heard in the well-known Cosmos series. After some remastering, David re-release the music privately as digital download in 2013 with a new album cover (the one featured above this review). |
