One of the first thoughts that flashed through my mind while listening to “Quantum Key” was: this is pure electricity. The 4-track/32-minute cupdisc (referred to as the vanguard of the forthcoming “Quantum Gate” album) by the post-Froese TD lineup Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane is a solid achievement. There’s a great drive found in the complex musi with Hoshiko delivering some emotive violin to the exciting “Electron Bonfire” along the contemporary-classic bundle of sounds. The real gem on the Ep though is opener “Genesis Of Precious Thoughts”. Obvious are the (psychedelic) echoes and influences of vintage albums like “Encore”, “White Eagle”, “Phaedra” and even “Poland”, but now pulled into a fine blast of 21st century Berlin School. After “Mala Kunia”, this second step in “The Quantum Years” series is another most interesting and thoughtful one, making me looking forward to the full-length record. |
